NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, Tennessee Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery, III and law enforcement partners in 24 states announced a settlement with VietNow National Headquarters, Inc., an Illinois nonprofit corporation, resulting in the organization’s termination.
Cohen seeks investigation into whether funds raised for St. Jude were diverted to Trump charities
U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen has asked U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate whether some of the money the Eric Trump Foundation’s charity golf tournament raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital went instead to other charities favored by President Donald Trump, reports Michael Collins.
“The report suggests that donors may have been misled, the event may have been used as a pass through to convert charitable donations to the Donald J. Trump Foundation into revenue for Donald Trump’s private businesses, and the event may have been used as a vehicle to profit Donald Trump’s private businesses,” Cohen said. “I urge you to investigate to determine whether federal laws have been violated.” (Text of Cohen’s letter is HERE.)
TN politicians, bureaucrats pack 50,000 meals for food banks
Members from all three state branches of Tennessee state government packed 50,000 meals in 90 minutes for state food banks on Wednesday, reports WTVF-TV.
It was all part of the General Assembly Nutrition Caucus’s “Campaign Against Hunger” which restocks food banks after the holiday season nearly wipes them out.
“You know, food insecurity, let’s call it what it is, hunger, is a problem in Tennessee just like every state, and it’s really unacceptable to us so we do what we can to help alleviate that. We provide funding each year for several food banks statewide but this gives some extra oompf,” said Senator Mark Norris.
