Rep. Harry Brooks’ wife hospitalized

Knoxville Republican state Rep. Harry Brooks’ wife, Mary, has been hospitalized for a month with pancreatitis, but is now recovering, reports Georgiana Vines.

“She was in intensive care four to five days at St. Mary’s Regional Center. She had a couple of side effects (from the illness). She’s been a pretty sick girl,” he said.

She’s doing better now and if she continues to improve, “we’re targeting going home (on) Wednesday,” he said.

Brooks said he was able to attend the opening day of the Legislature on Jan. 10 with the help of family, friends and members of his church, Union Baptist. These are the ones he’ll depend on to continue to help out, he said.

The Legislature is in recess until Jan. 30. He said he’ll see how she does and then make a decision about returning that day.

Brooks, a Republican who represents the 19th District, for years has chaired or been a member of education committees. He’s been reappointed by House Speaker Beth Harwell to continue to chair the Education Administration & Planning Committee.
