Physician Martin mulls Dem bid for governor

Physician Jason Martin of Nashville has formed an exploratory committee for a Democratic gubernatorial bid next year, the Nashville Scene’s Stephen Elliott reports.

Martin is a pulmonary and critical care specialist at Sumner Regional Medical Center and a former Meharry Medical College professor. While he has never previously sought public office, he has become an outspoken critic of Republican Gov. Bill Lee’s pandemic response.

Martin chronicled his experience in treating patients early in the pandemic in a Tennessean feature in April 2020.

Elliott reports Martin has hired Amplified Public Strategies, a new firm founded by former Tennessee Democratic Party communications director Emily Cupples and state Rep. Torrey Harris. Martin is appearing with Harris, fellow Memphis Democratic Rep. London Lamar, Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer and Michelle Fiscus, the state’s former vaccination chief who was fired earlier this month, at an event in Memphis this weekend.

Cupples had also started the Beat Bill Lee PAC in April.

With the primary just over a year away, Carnita Atwater of Memphis is only declared Democrat in the race.

This is like the sequel to Inherit the Wind. Science vs. whatever that thing in the governor’s office is.

(I would speak about our experience electing a No Record Candidate to the high office of Governor but we are talking Democrat running statewide in Tennessee so I won’t bother.)

Looks like a great candidate you’ve got there Democrats – great potential! All he needs is MONEY, lots and lots of money so be sure to contribute lots and lots of money to this one leftists. Lee has to be worried about this one.

As usual, Stuart peeks in to the conversation with his totally snide and condescending “words of wisdom from a Conservative.” Having a “no record” instead of a “lying, cheating record” might be refreshing for a change in Nashville but it has been so long since that happened in Nashville, you might not recognize it. Having a doctor in charge during a 2-year ongoing Pandemic doesn’t sound too bad to me. We need someone who is not in it for their own personal gain.

Right out of the gate Stuart wants to smother the conservative canadate in money, that’s how they think they win all the time – big, dark money and lots of it.

What this candidate needs is more TN citizens 18 and over registered and ready to VOTE. Along with our failing health care system, poor record of worker rights and pay, and low education ranking, we remain among the lowest in the 50 states of voter participation!

Which steve probably means a high proportion of those who vote in Tennessee are informed and knowledgeable about what’s happening in government and care, which is why Tennessee ranks so high in terms of fiscal strength and low taxes as well as one of the “go to” places to locate a business and retire. In short, a wonderful place for productive citizens and retirees to live, even for the few leftists who don’t realize how lucky they are.

Statistics released today reaffirms that States that cut unemployment benefits early HAVE NOT seen a hiring boom as expected. Guess that shoots down another one of those pie-in-the-sky Conservative misguided theories you champion. “Informed and knowledgeable about what is happening in government,” like you Stuart??

Simply means we have more layabout shade tree people than even conservative government officials anticipated who prefer to either not work and collect some money from those that do or officially not work, collect government money and work while getting paid under-the-table. In either case, the market is telling us the sad tale that payments to able bodied unemployed people are too high and continue for too long.

DeathSantis is killing off his constituents in Florida as fast as he can and our Governor Lee is following in his footsteps. And DeathSantis is reportedly running for President?? Really? Someone who ignores the swiftly rising Cases, Hospitalizations AND Deaths in his state is not someone that we want to expose to the rest of the country. He always has his finger in the wind seeing which way the wind blows and it is usually his middle finger as a blunt message to his constituents. Lee is just dumb, DeathSantis knows exactly what he is doing but just doesn’t care.

Trumps’ “Save America” PAC raised 31.5 MILLION Dollars but has spent ZERO Dollars on Legal Defenses. The PAC is run by his former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski. The PAC’s only listed expenses so far are $340,000 for “FUNDRAISING.” The watchdog group, Common Cause calls Trump “A one-man SCAM-PAC.” His PAC should be called “the Save Trump” PAC; it has nothing to do with America.

Economist Paul Krugman’s latest story reveals “the price of Gov. DeSantis’ inaction against Covid has cost his state of Florida tens of thousand’s of lives and tens of Billion’s of dollars.” Krugman labels the data “A massive failure of Leadership.” Florida is loosing about 58 people a day to Covid. Go read Krugmans’ entire story over at “RawStory.com.” Is this the type leader anyone would choose to run our country?
