McNally: Lawmakers should resign if arrested

Senate Speaker Randy McNally, an Oak Ridge Republican who wore a wire for the FBI in the Rocky Top investigation in the 1980s, says state lawmakers who who had their homes and offices searched by federal agents should resign if they are arrested.

“Of course nobody’s been arrested. They’ve just had search warrants,” McNally told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “But, if somebody’s arrested, I think they should resign.”

The lawmakers who had their offices and homes raided on Friday include former House Speaker Glen Casada (R-Franklin), Rep. Robin Smith (R-Hixson), and Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill). The FBI is also looking into former top Casada aide Cade Cothren, interim House Chief of Staff Holt Whitt, and two legislative staffers.

So far we’ve heard from the lawyers of Smith and Whitt:

[Smith] intends to cooperate fully with the investigation in all respects. while she would have preferred to do so voluntarily, Robin understands this may not have been possible…. [She] “is not the target of the investigation, and she has not done anything wrong. Please understand that due to the ongoing investigation, Robin will not be providing any further comment.”

— Smith attorney Ben Rose to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Holt Whitt was one of several individuals contacted by agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding an ongoing investigation. Mr. Whitt is a well-respected legislative aide with an impeccable reputation, and he has not been charged with any wrongdoing. He is cooperating fully with the investigation. Out of respect for the legal process, Mr. Whitt will have no further public comment regarding this matter.”

— Whitt attorney Ty Howard.

Federal agents descended on Rep. Warner’s home and business in Marshall County with search warrants, the contents of which remain shrouded in mystery by the government. Significantly, Rep. Warner has not been charged with any wrongdoing.”

— Warner’s attorney Peter Strianse

As much as I would like to see Unconstitutionalists out of the legislature, perhaps we should at least wait till we know Who is Charged with What. Then there is innocent until proven guilty to deal with.

anyone with any sense recognizes that mainstream media cannot be trusted. The reality is they attack everyone opposed to the far left and will do anything to keep the nation divided. All are innocent until proven guilty but mainstream media is not included. Innocence does not attract readers. They appeal to those who lack independent thinking to gather facts and discern truth from propaganda. In lieu of current events presented in mainstream media, we need to question everything. I must admit, the timing of the raid is suspicious . Please keep your eyes and hearts open this week. God will not be mocked and Truth will prevail.

So mainstream media cannot be trusted because “they appeal to those who lack independent thinking to gather facts and discern truth from propaganda.” That’s a heaping helping of hypocrisy from someone who reliably posts untruthful far right dogma. If cindy s really believes what she says, she should love the mainstream media.

Let’s not be hasty Randy M. (ACU-88%). There’s a lot of great conservatives legislative man-years wrapped up in Glen Casada (ACU-88%) and Robin Smith (ACU-90%) to willy-nilly toss them away just because they have been charged with something or other. Why not calmly wait for the details of the charges before making general incendiary statements?

What conservatives haven’t succeeded in emphasizing or certainly convincing the populace of is that the left is made up of authoritarians at heart as you would expect control freaks to be. The hypocritical nonsensical excuse that because a few hundred idiot Trumpidians thought it would be a great idea to trash the Capitol the authoritarians are going to shut down Parlour (sp?) and everything else they possibly can should be exposed for what it is, an excuse to do what they have long wanted to do, i.e. shut down the ability of the rightists to evangelize their political views wherever they can.

Unless the conservative, libertarian, national populists and others movements on the right quickly get together and devise some strategy to do something about the walls of totalitarianism closing in on liberty we will rapidly lose the freedom all of us always have taken for granted. For the next two years it’s only a question of how much damage the left can do. BTW, if you know any moron Trumpidian in Georgia who decided not to show up for the runoff they’re mad, be sure to say “Thanks, GOOD JOB!!!!

Indeed, the problem is that the left controls the heights of influence in this country and leftists who control those heights are acting independently to see to it that the right is not able to evangelize in the hope that it will increasingly lose influence, wither and die. Now the question is what can we do about it?

Perhaps because they are CONSERVATIVES and conservatives are not by temperament risk takers when the risks are unusually risky nor are they particularly creative when the creation requires a great amount of creativity. In short, conservatives are by nature particularly calm level headed people who have a healthy amount of skepticism as to the perfectibility of almost anything by the efforts of man. Not the kind of people you want pursuing out of the box technology or works of art but exactly the kind of people you want running your government.

Please notice the stream of consciousness that Perry revealed. I happen to have had the audacity to disagree about the interpretation of a speech given by an American politician as to whether he subtly advocated violence because he certainly didn’t overtly advocate violence. For committing the act of disagreeing with Perry I am somehow guilty of being a “. . .fellow traveler in treason. . .and a liar.” From there its a short distance to my having leftists corporations to refuse to sell me goods and services or allow me to communicate on Big Tech social media if was insane enough to have any desire to do so.

Perry has the same the same frightening mindset that we saw on display at the Capitol last week and in various cities of this country this summer. People like Perry should be left to wallow in their angry intolerance regarding anyone who disagrees with them and has the audacity to express that disagreement. The rest of us who value democratic principles and free speech must be constantly vigilant so as to never let a Perry reasonable facsimile anywhere near the levers of power in this country.

I watched his pre-attack speech to his “brown shirts”. He sounded like a football coach at half time firing his team up for the rest of the game. Just because he didn’t actually utter the words, “Go Get EM” does not negate the fact that the words he did use, his tone, and the context in which they were said conveyed to his mob what he wanted them to do. And they did it. You can’t be that naive.

      Stuart I. Anderson says:

In order to think the best of people I always harbor the hope that if intelligent leftists had a better command of history and even the English language they simply wouldn’t be leftists. For example, to “incite – to put in motion; to move to action.” From 1932 to 1945 Adolf Hitler attempted to micromanage every aspect of Germany with some of the most impressive tools of state control that the world has ever seen. To say that he “incited” anything in Germany when no major undertaking, like the Final Solution, took place in the country and then in allied and conquered countries without his approval is simply misusing the word.

Trump gave a fiery speech like political leaders with a wide, loyal following are prone to do full of nonsense asking people to go down to the Capitol to demonstrate their support for what he wanted Congress to do about the election. There is not the slightest shred of evidence to show that he had any reason to anticipate the events that actually occurred beforehand simply because it never happened before. Indeed, the Capitol and D.C. Police whose job it is to anticipate violence were totally unprepared for what occurred because it was simply unthinkable even to them.

The desire of the left and others with Trump Derangement Syndrome to make him responsible of all the bad and none of the good that takes place in this country is well established. Just because that desire is ardently and sincerely felt doesn’t serve to make it so.

To the contrary “good conservatives” are thoughtful people who would be perfectly capable of seeing both sides of every argument and choosing the one that fits the principles they believe work best for the country.

So-called conservatives are those who limit their knowledge input to only the echo chambers ~Fox, talk radio and Right Wing internet sites. They surround themselves with like minded people thinking that it is noble to reinforce every pre-conceived notion that they have had for 50 years rather than challenge themselves. Everything they ever need to know they learned in Kindergarten.

There used to be a show called Firing Line. No so-called conservative would enjoy that show today. None on here would. It was a show that is sorely missed and sorely needed.

Tucker Carlson is on the right edge of the American political spectrum and so am I – surprise, I sound like I am regurgitating Tucker Carlson. I am mystified why that should come as some sort of surprise to you or that you would expect any different.

I would say that the vast majority who contribute to this forum also have a certain worldview and hold policy preferences that reflects that worldview. You on the other hand are so involved with your Trump Derangement Syndrome after voting for Trump both times I believe and you take uncompromising positions which make you impatient and uber critical of practical political considerations.
