Gov. Bill Lee is headed to Texas on Saturday to visit with Tennessee National Guard members deployed along the border with Mexico.

Here’s the release from the governor’s office:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced he will travel to the U.S. Southern border this weekend to meet with Tennessee National Guard troops and evaluate needs in securing the border.

“The men and women of the Tennessee National Guard are playing a significant role in quelling the most severe border crisis we’ve seen in 20 years,” said Gov. Lee. “I want to personally commend the more than 300 Tennesseans who are serving our country and on the front lines of this crisis.”

Currently, there are 300 Tennessee National Guard members stationed at multiple sites throughout the border region of Texas to provide support to Customs and Border Protection. These personnel are members of three units:

— 269th Military Police Company – Routinely augments law enforcement by conducting training and providing a presence along the border

— 913th Engineer Company – Capabilities lend to myriad road building efforts and border wall projects

— 2-151 Aviation Battalion – Provides an aerial platform to assist Customs and Border Protection with a number of their logistical and operational priorities

Gov. Lee will be accompanied by Maj. Gen. Jeff Holmes, Adjutant General of the Tennessee National Guard. Upon their return, Gov. Lee and Holmes will provide more details about the visit

Is he using #TennesseeOnMe flight vouchers to get there?

Can we get Bill Haslam back?

Is this supposed to make up for that time Bill “Big Government Lockdown” Lee defied Donald Trump and brought in “refugees” from violent crime nations? A photo op at the border? Good luck.

Exactly right, Jason! More spotlight time for the egocentric Governor Lee and also a stop by the CPAC event in Dallas. He’s not just lying to Tennesseans, he’s lying to Americans to define himself as ‘Conservative’. He certainly pulled the wool over the voters’ eyes in 2018 with that ‘aw shucks’ presentation of himself as Mr. Nice Guy. He could thank the troops from his ‘farm’ and save the state budget for his travel fees.

The governor is out traveling around following an army of misplaced soldiers that have no business in that area of the country. The Governor’s stop off at CPAC should be paid out of his pocket – conservative grifters using their political positions to bolster their own piggy bank and their ego. Trump is still the master of grifting but the TN republicans and conservatives are learning quickly.

It’s a sad day when states have to activate civilians for military duty in order to do the job that the federal government is supposed to be doing but refuses to do. Unfortunately the demented big guy’s handlers are carrying out their long term program of fundamentally changing the American electorate with the support of the cheap labor crowd so Gov. Lee is stepping up to help alleviate the chaos that has resulted. Thank-you Gov. Lee.

Bill Lee opened the floodgates to “refugees” and turned his back on Donald Trump.

He’s not doing anything but getting in the way of the troops trying to do their job. Any conservative who truly cares about the border can see this political stunt for what it is.

Stuart, there is no amount of Marsha Blackburn Image Consulting® that will ever reestablish your “conservative” brand, RINO. “The Republicans who voted for (Trump) were WRONG. Trump is a jerk. He… lost. He is going out (of office) like a jerk.” – Stuart Anderson January 16, 2021

Governor Lee gets no ‘thank you’ from me. He is doing the right thing in sending help to Texas, but he doesn’t have to take the spotlight and credit. Kind of like the “Tennessee On Me”. He joked in the promo video that it should be “Tennessee on Governor Lee”, but it’s “Tennessee on Tennessee Taxpayers”!

James, Marsha (Heritage-87%) is a much beloved Senator in this state and I am happy to say she will be our Senator for as long as she chooses to hold that position. I believe she is on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Emerging Threats and Capabilities subcommittee. She is, therefore, very much involved with the policy debacle that is Afghanistan, another “Uniter” Bush fiasco.

I didn’t read Marsha’s statement as to whether she is merely criticizing the manner in which the demented Big Guy is withdrawing or whether she is criticizing the withdrawal itself. In either case, I’m afraid this is one of the 13% of the time when Marsha is wrong. Afghanistan and Iraq policies were wrong from the start and both countries together aren’t worth the lives of a single American soldier. The only regret is that it has taken us twenty years to liquidate this foolish and costly venture.

Holy cow what the samhill is that Heritage score good for?

Governmental powers, social issues, the security state, etc. Our federal government has become a goliath that is suffocating the life out of this country and Marsha, as her 87% score indicates, is on the side of small government and individual liberty in an overwhelming number of times.

Legislators vote hundreds if not about a thousand times in any given session of congress. If in your role as Madame NO! of this forum you are determined to draw up an indictment for almost inevitably a Republican legislator that happens to be in your crosshairs it is easy to make a mental list of the votes with which you disagree and reference those votes whenever you are trying to make a point. The Heritage score, or if you like the Club For Growth Score that has Marsha at a lifetime 89%, shows Marsha to be a great conservative legislator because, unlike you, they are not interested in serially indicting right-of-center people in public office. On the contrary, they are interested in capturing a political positioning considering a broad range of issues. But of course, as a Republican, indicting Republicans (the more conservative the better) is exactly what you take some odd joy in doing which makes you very hard to understand, sui generis if you will, but to us our beloved Madame NO!

A government that does absolutely NOTHING is your idea of a good small government, and Marsha fits that leadership position perfectly. Marsha does not have a clue what the people of Tennessee desire from their public officials Stuart, no matter how much you worship the collection of conservative fools in Nashville.

No, Not doing absolutely nothing, but only what is allowed in the constitution. And contrary to what many believe, it does not allow for Every Thing.
Conservatives believe in Negative federal government, a government that protects the country and protects the peoples private property and God given rights.
As opposed to a Positive federal government that gives to, and does every thing for the people.

I guess winning her last election by 11% against the one Democrat who was capable of running the most well financed campaign of any Democratic politician in this state and who was the most popular Democratic politician isn’t enough to convince a leftist like you that Marsha EXACTLY reflects the political desires of the people of Tennessee. (BTW Bredesen spent much of his campaign trying to convince Tennesseans that he is nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, like you and your small band of leftist friends just to refresh your memory.)

Perhaps when Marsha runs for re-election in 2024 and she wins by about 20% that will convince you of her popullarity. You will be happy to learn, however, that the SIAECPCF will probably not participate in trying to make that happen, it has better things to do unless, of course, in the unlikely event she is seriously challenged.

Her value as a conservative is NOT measured by popularity. When will you ever learn the difference? Trump is popular in TN; that doesn’t make him a conservative.

If Marsha is wrong on immigration, wrong on taxes and wrong on foreign war entanglements for pete’s sake that’s a LOT to be wrong about. Just b/c she’s not as bad as the other guy doesn’t maker her good.

MARLE, Marsha may be wrong about one or more elements or facets of broad issues like immigration, taxes, war and peace, etc. and still be a conservative. And whoever equated popularity with conservatism? I know neither I nor Heritage Action would dream of doing so.

Marsha has been winning elections, usually overwhelmingly, for over a decade because she is so good at taking the pulse of her constituents who are overwhelmingly conservative Republicans (though not always conservative enough for me) while being grudgingly acceptable to the Chamber of Commerce. That’s talent, and that’s what makes for a U.S. Senator in Tennessee. Glad to see Hagerty (Heritage-96%) following in her footsteps.

President Trump is the one who began the drawdown in Afghanistan. It proves a conservative Republican can bring our troops home. Sen Blackburn is not pushing for a large presence in Afghanistan, or continued nation building. She wants to maintain one military base with a limited military presence. Does not make her a neocon. It does mean she understands the security threat that continues from that region.
