Golden to seek third term as state GOP chair

Republicans hold a unity event in Franklin following the primary election on Aug. 8, 2020.

Scott Golden will seek another term as chairman of the state Republican Party following an election year in which President Donald Trump matched his Tennessee winning percentage from four years ago, former Ambassador Bill Hagerty was elected to the U.S. Senate, and Republicans lost just one seat in the General Assembly.

The former aide to then-U.S. Reps. Marsha Blackburn and Stephen Fincher was first elected to the job in 2016.

Here’s an excerpt from Golden’s letter to the party’s State Executive Committee announcing his latest bid:

Both 2021 and 2022 will get off to a fast start, including the fight to save America beginning in mid-December with the defense of the two Georgia senate seats to determine which Party has the majority in the United States Senate. After, we should all expect to be attending the inauguration of President Trump in January. County party reorganizations, county bylaws, and county calls for local primaries will be happening throughout 2021 as we prepare for redistricting and what will be a great election year of 2022. Of course, our bylaws committee has been working and will continue to refine our policies as we approach this huge election year.

Yeah, let’s go with the worst Chair the TNGOP has had for another 2 years. No political organization, no communications strategy, no fundraising.

No one may challenge Golden, but his record is atrocious. All he does is show up to events around the state. That’s it. His reputation for being lazy has been on full display for the last 4 years.

We are a long way away from Chairman Harwell, Chairman Davis, Chairman Saltsman, Chairman Devaney, Chairman Williamson, and Chairman Burnett.

If Tennessee were a swing state, we’d be in a bad spot. The only thing propping this guy up is overwhelming number of GOP voters.

Redistricting will bring another state House seat to Williamson County which conservatives have to make certain is filled by someone with a solid record of conservative activism.

Stuart, sadly I fear that Williamson County Republicans are too corrupted by evil forces like book learnin’ to embrace your vision of conservatism. So don’t get your hopes up for a staunch believer in a flat earth, anti evolution, witch burner.

To say nothing about the need for phlogiston in order to have burning and my belief that if we only bled patients with the Chinese Flu this damn pandemic would be over.

Good. A yes man is hard to find. Especially one who owes his souls and paycheck to the Haslam family. We don’t want anyone but good RINOs running for office to help “do away with the electoral college” Cameron Sexton and no record Haggerty, etc. who knows what rich candidates the future holds!!!

I’m thrilled to see this announcement! Scott Golden is a good man and one of the hardest working that I’ve ever met! The GOP would do well to continue with his leadership!

Not a fan of Scott Golden. I remember when Fincher came to Oakland and had a town hall. Mitchell Morrison was to give him hundreds of postcards signed by voters to Get US Out of the UN.
When Fincher got to Mitchell, I was in the back and started to video it on my phone and Scott Golden and another fellow from the Fincher office Jumped over in front of me to block me from video. I yelled Get out of my way, and moved closer ( and the people all turned to see what was going on) and they stopped harassing me then.

All of the comments above very well represent the totally garbled message of the GOP today, both in TN and across the USA. It is not that trump has ruined the GOP, it is that the GOP felt compelled to support and enable such a crook and have continuously traded their souls for his meager and short-lived approval. When you completely surrender your reputation to a man of such low character you have nothing left to say. Lindsey Graham is making a fool of himself (again) and leading the party proudly down the rabbit hole.

Bill Lee needs to congratulate President Elect Biden. He congratulated Hagerty with 24% of the votes counted in TN.

Invalid comparison. Tennessee is reliably a Republican majority that was proven out again in this election. Governor Lee wasn’t stepping out on a limb with a premature claim like former VP Biden is doing now. Will Democrats calmly accept the count of legal votes, should President Trump be re-elected when the recounts and allegations of impropriety are confirmed in a court of law?

Please provide any evidence you have on any impropriety. Otherwise please stop attempting to diminish our trust in the democratic process. Did George Bush also ‘go out on a limb’? How about every credible international news outlet? Please be clear that 40 percent for Biden is 2 out of ever 5 people, all over Tennessee and we do deserve a voice.

In state after state, our public officials are speaking out very clearly saying that they are finding NO evidence of any voter fraud or wrongdoing by any election officials. Not a single incidence of voter fraud has turned up so far. Plenty of Republican “poll watchers” sat and watched the counters for days and saw nothing, they had TV cameras on them the entire time. Plenty of accusations by Barr and Trump and Graham but not a single shred of any proof in any state so far.
