Former Cruz campaign manager hired by Matheny for congressional campaign

State Rep. Judd Matheny has hired John Drogin, a Texas-based political consultant who managed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s successful campaign in 2012, for his 6^th Congressional District campaign, according to Tennessee Star.

“Drogin has more than 15 years of experience working for successful, conservative campaigns. He served as campaign manager for Ted Cruz’s first Senate Campaign in 2011-2012, which was called the “biggest upset of 2012.” He then served as State Director for Cruz’s Senate office, and as a senior advisor to the main Super PACs supporting Cruz for President,” the Matheny campaign said in a statement to The Tennessee Star.

He is the founder Drogin Group, a political and digital media consulting firm.

“John Drogin is a great American. He has the same energy and principled conservative DNA that is part of the political souls of Tennesseans in the 6th District. He will be a great asset to a successful campaign for us,” State Rep. Matheny said.

…“Judd gets it. He is the true, principled conservative in this race. Voters are hungry for someone who will change the status quo in Washington. Judd has proven through his actions that he is the conservative leader we need working for Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. That’s why I’m eager to work with Judd and know he will win,” Drogin said.

“Drogin has deep ties to the district as his wife, Mandy (Slough) Drogin, was born and raised in Hendersonville, where her parents still reside,” the Matheny campaign said.

Matheny confirmed to the Post that Drogin will handle web, data analytics, strategy and campaign team cohesion. Jennifer Hamblin, the soon-to-resign chair of the Cheatham County Republican Party and a member of the Cheatham County Board of Education, will continue to serve as Matheny’s campaign manager. (A chair of a county party cannot endorse any primary candidate; Hamblin is formally resigning at the next meeting.)

Matheny is facing businessman and former state agriculture commissioner John Rose and blogger Christopher B. Monday, both Cookeville residents, in the Republican primary, although rumors of other candidates entering are rife.
