Counties surrounding Nashville restore mask mandates

Gov. Bill Lee, left, announces a $200 million relief program for businesses affected by the state’s stay-at-home order for non-essential businesses at Arnold’s restaurant in Nashville on June 2, 2020. To his right are House Speaker Cameron Sexton, Senate Speaker Randy McNally, Rep. Pat Marsh, and Rep. Harold Love. (Erik Schelzig, Tennessee Journal)

The mayors of Williamson, Sumner, and Wilson counties are restoring mask requirements that had been dropped earlier. A spokesman for Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron said “it’s not inconceivable” for a mask requirement to be reinstated there, though no decision has been made.

Gov. Bill Lee has declined to issue a statewide mask mandate despite the White House officially calling on Tennessee to do so. But the governor has extended an executive order granting the authority to require face coverings to local authorities.

So did we take note that the CDC has changed its collective mind yet one more time? Instead of keeping 6ft distance and a period of less than 15minutes in the company of a covid shedder to be safe…..it’s now 15 minutes in Total (with multiple infected) in any given 24 hr period.

And they wonder why so many don’t trust or rely on a word they say.

Actually, this to me reinforces why we SHOULD pay attention to the CDC -real scientists gather more data and use evidence to make recommendations. As we learn more about Covid-19, guidance will surely change.

These people at CDC have been studying upper respiratory viruses (corona viruses included) for well over 50 years. Fauci himself has been collecting a paycheck for 40 years. How on earth is the spread of droplets or aerosols an Unknown. A “novel coronavirus” only means we don’t have immunity from it; it doesn’t mean it behaves in ways Totally different from its “cousins” that we have been studying for decades.

This is ineptitude of the first order at CDC; and it is costing lives b/c people are rightfully skeptical of everything that comes out of this agency.

Most of the information supporting masks comes from the bureaucracy within medical organizations. I am much more inclined to believe the doctors who are on the front lines and not getting pressure from large corporations to “walk the line”. I ENCOURAGE everyone to watch the video of speeches given by a variety of practicing doctor. It was given on the steps of the Supreme Court. THANK YOU Governor Lee for respecting my rights as a Tennessean as to whether or not to wear a mask. There is NO solid proof that masks help stop the virus.

Lee’s failure to lead does two things:
    1) It puts the heat on local mayors who will face the wrath of their uninformed constituents.
    2) It puts Tennesseans in danger, as many of those mayors wont do the right thing due to political pressure.

Agreed. We must trust the evolving science over the emotion of Governors or Mayors or even citizens. I once again say the police should stop and fine/arrest anyone not wearing a mask….even in a private vehicle if more than one person is in there. This is the definition of DO THE RIGHT THING!! Everyone has to work together to keep everyone safe….no renegades.

This virus is “novel” in so many ways. The infection rate and degree of conditions in children is different, the particularly unique so called “long haulers” problems can vary widely. The scientists are still learning. Not sure why anyone would put more trust into a politician than a scientist specializing in infectious diseases. Ebola is different than AIDS, which is different than Sars etc. The Covid-19 disease is even mutating as we speak. Science is always seeking a better answer. Todays’ scientists just recently proved a decades old hypothesis from Einstein, they are changing and learning every day.

Ebola is NOT a respiratory disease. It’s infection transmission is altogether different. AIDS is different from Ebola and is also NOT a respiratory disease. These 2 infections are different from Covid as night is to day. Sars, Mers, Bird and Swine flu are very much alike in how they are transmitted with slight variation.

We had Way back in January those taken from the Princess Cruise Lines. We had within a month cases developing in the US plenty of cases. How aerosols and droplets disperse and are carried in the air is a Physics experiment which takes No time to evaluate. Plus we’ve been studying other respiratory viruses for nearly a Century.

Stop making excuses that don’t hold water.

Are you able to read? I suggest that you can find in medical Jama journal, in CDC past publications from 2014 and 2017 which cover the findings of their data on Cytokine storm, Sars and Mers data and a lot of other topics; I have read multiple reports from beginning to end.

I am retired. I am interested. I have access to information. So I don’t have to have a medical degree.

I have gone to a local gym, 6 days per week for over an 1hr per session since gyms opened up in Davidson county on June 4. I am 71. I spend so much time in a facility with 20 and 30-somethings who are not obligated to wear a mask when using equipment.

So….it’s up to me to sift through the information that can keep me as safe as possible while allowing me to keep a reasonable level of cardio and overall health. Following this and going back over past information (at a time when things were not so politicized) has been more than an academic exercise for me.

I never claimed that they were respiratory diseases. I simply pointed out that scientists are still discovering new things about each one of those diseases and how they spread, especially into humans. I trust the latest from infectious disease specialists over Trump or Lee or you, Marle. I do agree that they all (& all of us) do make mistakes but Dr. Fauchi is much more reliable than Trumpty Dumpty. That was my point.

Oh yes. Let’s condemn the void of mask mandates for a virus tiny enough to easily penetrate almost every cloth type face covering made and in use. Let’s not advise the vulnerable that they should invest in less penetrable face shields. Let’s not emphasize the need to boost immunities with supplements. The blame game that attaches itself to the mask wars is so tiresome and useless! Taking the virus seriously means base response and protection in the RIGHT way!

You can’t boost your immune system enough to avoid getting this if given a large viral load exposure and you can’t boost your immune system into avoiding the deadly consequences of Cytokine Storm which has killed many. In fact it is an Overactive immune system that is killing many as the immune response doesn’t quit when the virus is vanquished but continues to go haywire attacking other healthy vital organs.

As someone who hasn’t gotten a cold in 6 yrs + and can’t remember having the flu in the last 10-15 yrs and has Never taken a flu shot and is 71 yrs old I have a healthy concern about Cytokine Storm and its effects on the 15% of otherwise healthy Americans who are susceptible to it.

Take your information from wherever you like. The mistakes they made are not excusable given the history scientific experience with viral transmission and the handsome salary they’ve been paid for 40years of acquired knowledge that they are supposed to be able to draw on in a pandemic. It’s been poorly handled.

The doctors in the video are not wearing masks.
If you see a doctor wearing a mask, it is likely because the place where he/she is working requires that they wear a mask. When you go against the AMA guidelines, you likely will pay the consequences.
