Bredesen: Corker ‘feels the same way I do’ — and Trump campaigning for Blackburn won’t hurt him much
In Chattanooga Monday, former Gov. Phil Bredesen said “it’s odd and very telling to the nation’s political climate” that Republican U.S. Sen. Bob Corker is being criticized by some fellow Republicans for “being friends and working closely with someone from the opposite party,” according to WDEF TV. The Democratic candidate to succeed Corker in the Senate, of course, is speaking of himself as the person Corker has worked with. He told another station that his campaign won’t be harmed significantly if President Trump campaigns within the state for Republican nominee-apparent Marsha Blackburn.
Corker defends favorable comments about Bredesen on national TV shows
Republican U.S. Sen. Bob Corker defended his favorable comments about former Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat running to succeed him, on two national TV talk shows Sunday though other Republicans have criticized his remarks as possibly damaging Republican Marsha Blackburn’s prospects. Sen. Bob Corker says that – though declaring he will donate to fellow Republican Marsha Blackburn’s campaign to succeed him in the U.S. Senate — says he will not work against Democrat Phil Bredesen and believes the “outstanding public servant” will get a lot of Republican votes.
Corker’s comments came in an interview with the National Journal. Bredesen says he “obviously was pleased” to hear the comments, which follow ’s conversations with Corker earlier this year suggesting the senator either run for governor or reelection, reports the Times Free Press.
Blackburn and Bredesen concerned about trade war but not yet criticizing

A poll conducted this month and commissioned by a health care advocacy group finds Tennessee voters Democrat Phil Bredesen favored over Republican Marsha Blackburn by five points, 46 percent to 41 percent. It also reports 47 percent believe the Affordable Care Act should remain in place while 42 percent want the measure, better known as Obamacare, repealed.
Bredesen discusses Trump in second TV ad
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Phil Bredesen has released his second ad in which he discusses his feelings about President Donald Trump.
“Look, I’m not running against Donald Trump,” Bredesen says in the spot, pledging to support the president’s initiatives when they’re good for the state, and to oppose them when they’re not.
“I think that’s what senators ought to do,” the former governor says.
That’s a more qualified approach than Republican U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s blanket statements of support for the president.
