Boyd leads guber field in political ad purchases with $9M; Black at $7M
Four Republican candidates for governor have purchased $21 million in political advertising for their campaigns, reports The Tennessean. Two Democrats and a couple of PACs involved in the gubernatorial campaign have, combined, spent about $2 million on ads, for a $23 million statewide total.
That’s for ads already run and those purchased and scheduled to run in the campaign days ahead.

NRSC echoes Trump’s Bredesen bashing in online video
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Phil Bredesen is declared “another obstructionist Washington Democrat” in a National Republican Senatorial Committee online video that uses clips of President Trump criticizing the former Tennessee governor during a campaign rally for Republican Marsha Blackburn in Nashville last week. Blackburn’s campaign posted the same clips as online video shortly after the rally. The NRSC video is entitled “Whatever His Name Is” — a label Trump applied to Bredesen at one point during his remarks.

A new Super PAC supporting Tennessee Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Lee says it began airing radio ads today touting the Williamson County businessman as the “conservative outsider we need,” reports the Times Free Press.
Black campaign asks TV stations to stop airing PAC-sponsored attack ad

An attorney for Diane Black’s gubernatorial campaign is asking TV stations to stop airing a TV ad that declares “Dishonest Diane Black” is “good for illegal immigrants, bad for Tennessee.” So reports The Tennessean, which obtained a copy of a letter sent to Knoxville TV station WVLT.
The ad was paid for by a political action committee, known as Tennessee Jobs Now, which supports one of Black’s GOP competitors — Knoxville entrepreneur Randy Boyd. (Previous post with video and text of the ad, HERE.)
PolitiFact rates TNGOP Bredesen-bashing press release as ‘half true’
PolitiFact has deemed “half true” a Tennessee Republican Party press release denouncing Democrat Phil Bredesen TV ad that boasts of his record in recruiting economic development while governor, including creation of 200,000 new jobs. It’s a bit of an oddity in that the ad itself is not given a truth rating, as PolitiFact often does on political advertising claims.
Boyd likens himself to Donald Trump in new TV ad
Republican gubernatorial candidate Randy Boyd declared that he and President Donald Trump are “a lot alike” in a new TV ad that has the tag line: “Randy Boyd: A conservative businessman, not a professional politician.”
