Blast from the past: Ramsey featured on HBO’s ‘Last Week Tonight’

Former Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey made an unexpected appearance on HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” over the weekend.

The bit featured a clip of the Blountville Republican speaking to members of the Tennessee Capitol Hill Press Corps in 2011 about imposing tighter restrictions on unemployment benefits.

Here’s the exchange captured by the defunct TNReport.com:

Ramsey: “If you were fired from your job for just cause, maybe even for stealing from your employer of chronic absenteeism, you shouldn’t be able to get unemployment.”

Reporter: “You don’t get unemployment insurance if you’re fired for cause now –“

Ramsey: “The law says you’re not supposed to, but buddy let me assure you, nine times out of 10 they get their unemployment.”

Reporter: “Nine times out of 10?”

Ramsey: “I don’t know about that. OK, that was a Ron Ramsey blanket statement there. But there are plenty of examples that they get it.”

Watch the full clip below, starting at about the 10-minute mark (warning: customarily colorful language used by Oliver):

And here comes the classic Stuart Anderson blanket statement with a fake statistic, Heritage Score, or some sort of Holocaust/Slavery denial.

Come on steve, the leftist snowflakes and their cancel culture has killed humor in this country, at least for those of us who are not leftists, so surely you don’t expect me to wade through that HBO clip to find Ramsey’s comments of 10 yrs ago. Reading the summary, however, Ramsey’s point is that there may be rules about the ability to collect from government programs but the enforcement is characteristically loosey-goosey because it’s government bureaucrats who are characteristically liberal/left who administer the programs. In that Ramsey is making a point that is obviously correct.

Republican and Conservative lies go back through history and yes, they are on tape, nothing new there! It is just one more example of a republican politician lying to the public on tape. It is the conservative way to make up facts as you go, anything that supports your theory, just like Stuart does.
