AP: Tennessee leads nation in laws targeting transgender people

A flurry of anti-LGBTQ bills have been filed around the country this year, but Tennessee has gone further than any other in targeting transgender people, according to AP reporters Jonathan Mattise, Kimberlee Kruesi, and Lindsay Whitehurst.

From the story:

Lawmakers passed and Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed five new bills into law, consistently dismissing concerns that they discriminate against an already vulnerable population, that some of the laws are unworkable and that they could damage the state’s reputation.

Supporters defend the laws policy by policy, arguing that one protects parental rights, others protect girls and women and one even improves equality. Opponents reject those claims.

[…] Tennessee’s emergence as an anti-LGBTQ leader grows out of a rightward political shift in a state Republicans already firmly controlled. Lee’s Republican predecessor tapped the brakes on some socially conservative legislation, but emphatic GOP election wins fueled by strong support for former President Donald Trump have emboldened lawmakers since then. That’s the political landscape in which Lee is launching his 2022 reelection bid.

Yes, Eddie, 2022 will be a quiet political year in Tennessee with the possible exception of Brian Kelsey’s (ACU-87%) re-election campaign for the state senate. Conservatives should make sure that Brian has the needed resources relative to the opposition the Democrats dig up then we can look out of state for candidacies like those involved in the 3 1/2 Lamars Retirement Project. Of course we must not forget the House races where we may opportunistically be able to pick off centrist/tepid conservative Republican House congressmen.

It might not be such a “quiet political year in TN.” if the Feds start rounding up all our legislators in busses heading to prison. Better not send all that campaign money out of state just yet, we could have more than a few conservative politicians that may need help with legal fees soon.

Actually that’s #1 in putting the interests and comfort of sane people ahead of the interests of mentally disturbed individuals and the Cultural Marxists who use their plight to further modern day Marxist political goals.

This is pathetic! I’ve always loved that I am born and raised in Tennessee, but the last several years our state has gone in a hatred direction. So sad that these lawmakers and the governor are so judgmental, but yet, say they are Christians.

      Stuart I. Anderson says:

Reta, it’s strange how you assume that laws designed to protect things that most people want to see protected like parental rights, girl’s and women sports, and women’s privacy and safety are animated by “hatred” rather than by what the advocates of those laws say their purpose was yet you criticize others for being “judgmental.” I just checked the dictionary and disagreeing with Reta Adams is not “hatred” and I don’t believe there’s anything in the Bible to the effect that tolerance of just about everything is a Christian virtue.

60 Minutes last evening had a surprisingly balanced report on the issue of Trans hormonal “therapy” and surgery for those in their early and late teens. Leslie Stahl interviewed teens who had opted for surgical re-assignment with very little required Psychological counseling and proceeded to surgical alteration with 12 months. After age 18 there is no parental consent required even though the teen may be a dependent of the parents.

Legislation across the country is trying to reign in these practices and the Stahl segment did a good job of highlighting the concerns of both sides.

Another calm reasoned argument from the far left that causes everyone not on the far left to roll their eyes. Unfortunately the Republicans are so comfy in the tall grass that they don’t a bigger issue out of this madness.

One question Stuart……does Cailtyn Jenner have to use the men’s bathroom in your opinion? And if so, why?

          Stuart I. Anderson says:

I’m not familiar with the details of Jenner’s mutilation if any occurred but I guess there comes a point where one is so mutilized that it does present an interesting question. Of course we are dealing with such a tiny number of people that only Cultural Marxists and their sympathizers have any interest in going to the mat over this one way or the other.

Off the top of my head, if a mutilated make athlete continues to possess the physical attributes of a male he must compete with men no matter his/her genitalia. As to bathrooms and lockers I would imagine women prefer the individual to change at home though, of course, I can’t be sure given the frame of mind of so many uber modern women. Sorry I can’t give you a more definitive answer, but this is a very infrequent, bizarre situation only made a big deal by Cultural Marxists in their many front campaign to cause the loss of self-confidence leading to the eventual dissolution of western society.

The question was simple Stuart. Jenner is attending one of many Republican fund raiser events and has to go to the bathroom. Which one should she be directed to use????

Where should Jenner go to use the bathroom?

Men’s bathrooms have urinals. A woman “pretending” to be a man can’t use one of those and would be in a stall.

Women’s bathrooms only have stalls. So a man “pretending” to be a woman (such as you think is the case with Jenner ) would be in a stall.

In both cases the “Pretender” would be in a stall having gone into one looking like the appropriate gender (as in the case of Jenner). And the problem with that is……?

          • Avatar
            Stuart I. Anderson says:

The problem concerning this entire matter is the fact that there are Cultural Marxists whose goal is to conjure up issues that will have Americans at each other’s throats with the result that society is weakened as Americans lose the unifying ties that bind along with our self-confidence. I assure you Chairman Xi and his government doesn’t have to spend time and effort dealing with sexual eccentrics and the ramifications of their eccentricities. Chairman Xi also rules over a country that is 92% Han Chinese, so he also doesn’t have to deal with all that “celebrating” we do every damn day due to the “blessing” of our diversity.

Cultural Marxists want to do what Marxists have always wanted to do, destroy the capitalistic system and much of the individual freedoms we take for granted in this country. Instead of class warfare which turned out to be a dismal failure they use identity politics. They continually engage us in a in a relentless multi-front effort to unravel society. Caitlin Jenner and what bathroom he/she patronizes doesn’t interest me at all. The fact that so much of the left are in the thrall of Cultural Marxism and the further fact that the Republican Party is so pathetically timid in pushing back against it are what I find so “troubling.”

            They aren’t Conjuring up anything.

            1) There are transgendered people in America such as Caitlyn Jenner, Republican Trump supporter and possible GOP candidate for Governor of CA. NO CONJURING

            2) All humans need to use the restroom when away from home . A Public Bathroom.

            3) People such as yourself want to have people who were born male use the Men’s Room
and they want their State Legislators to pass laws to force the issue.

Culture Marxists did not create Caitlyn Jenner. And they did not create the need for a public restroom trip for all humans.

You need to wean yourself from the totally Lopsided nightly presentations on Foxx. You can’t think for yourself anymore.

People who can’t reason and Think for themselves are what’s going to ruin America, Stuart.

No MARLE it’s when I don’t have the time or interest to follow you down every insignificant rabbit hole you want to burrow into is when I dismiss it in that it doesn’t interest me at all. Sitting and brooding where the hell Jenner relieves him/herself and the global ramifications connected therewith is perhaps what you and your loved ones like to do but I simply don’t find that kind of brain storming fun. As a matter of fact, haven’t you noticed that I follow you down more rabbit holes than anyone else on this forum so apparently everyone else said “no thank you” to the opportunity to follow you from rabbit hole to rabbit hole long ago.

Surely we have had sexual eccentrics since the beginning of time and they all seemed to have found a place to relieve themselves and play sports. As a libertarian I find spending police resources rounding them up and imprisoning them unconscionable, but other than that they should be left alone AND THEY SHOULD LEAVE EVERYONE ELSE ALONE by adapting to social norms as best as they can given their eccentricities. This is another tempest in a teapot conjured up by Cultural Marxists for the reasons I discussed and my spending time addressing it other than to reject the Cultural Marxist demands is exactly what they want me/us to do.

Indeed MARLE perhaps one day Erik will let us know his estimate of how many people read this blog. I would say there are about a dozen who frequently chime in with commentary maybe two dozen who do so from time to time, yet when you go down your rabbit holes except for me and very occasionally one or maybe two others SILENCE. You are truly a unique specimen MARLE, the only true “thinking conservative” on this forum apparently, perhaps in all of Middle Tennessee or beyond. When you parlay that with the fact that you are a “thinking conservative” who devotes almost all of her time joining leftists criticizing conservatives with relatively few criticisms of the left as they devour this country while at the same time being unable to ever show enthusiasm for anybody, anywhere running for or serving in public office no question you are truly sui generis in so many ways.

Every society has conventions and traditions. It is what holds society together and gives people a sense of belonging and enthusiasm for their society and country. It is specifically this sense that Cultural Marxists are out to destroy so we are left with a society for which no one has any love or enthusiasm for at all. When that happens a crises occurs, there’s is no reserve of emotional attachment to fall back on and poof it’s gone and the Marxists can take over and “fundamentally change” everything.

The burden of proof is on those who want to change society’s conventions and traditions. People who are delusional should be afforded help establishing contact with reality. Where that isn’t possible given the state of psychiatry or psychology they should be assisted in functioning in society as best as they can. Society, on the other hand, has no obligation to turn itself inside out to accommodate these people whether they think they are Napoleon, Jesus, or a girl when they clearly are a boy. Because there are alcoholics we shouldn’t reimpose prohibition. It is possible to live with yet control your demons such as gender identity disorder. Those suffering from this malady should have to do so rather than the rest of us convert their sickness into a political cause celebre.

Stuart frequently reverts to distraction tactics when he can’, or doesn’t want to, answer the question being posed. He consistently winds up at some dead-end thinking and then can’t conjure up an intelligent answer to the problem being addressed. Then he usually trots out one of his cute conservative sayings about “TURNING RIGHT!” Nothing new there. I believe his report cards in grade school were often marked: “Does not play well with others.”

In some travels, both Europe and Asia, and USA, I’ve encountered Unisex Bathrooms. These were in large cities and small towns – and even in USA). You know what, people just acted normally, its a private space, private functions.

This could be an alternative to part of this “problem”.

However, details such as breast feeding, requiring a quiet, privacy, access to electricity if pumping should be addressed as we have also successfully started having diaper changing stations in some men’s bathrooms.

I know it won’t address the fears/concerns folks are expressing about women athletes. Its interesting using the female athletes space as another “stand our ground” protect our women. Lets have intelligent and research driven analysis plus discussion on this issue, as well as any others that appear. You know what? We have some amazing research and analysis institutes here in Tennessee, University of Tennessee, is one of many, they can help us have an intelligent evaluation of this issue.

Emotions, personal beliefs & fears plus name calling have become the mode of political discussions. Is Tennessee really passing these laws because the majority of their constituents are demanding it?
