American Conservative Union endorses Hagerty

The American Conservative Union, the group known for putting on the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), is endorsing Bill Hagerty in Tennessee’s U.S. Senate race.

Hagerty spoke at a regional CPAC meeting in Memphis in October 2019. Rival Republican candidate Manny Sethi was also part of the program at the event, though his speaking slot was pushed back to late in the afternoon to accommodate an appearance by My Pillow founder Michael Lindel.

The American Conservative Union in 2018 endorsed U.S. Rep. Diane Black (R-Gallatin) in her unsuccessful bid for the gubernatorial nomination.

Here is the release endorsing Hagerty:

Alexandria, VA – The American Conservative Union (ACU) today announced its endorsement of Bill Hagerty for election in Tennessee to the United States Senate.

“In Tennessee the race to become the next U.S. Senator has come down to a choice between two candidates with conservative policy positions, but for ACU the choice is clear. We know from personal experience the impact that Bill Hagerty has had advancing conservative successes,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Ambassador Hagerty served effectively under President Trump as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, and in that role helped shape the aggressive approach that the United States has taken over the last few years holding China more accountable on trade, national security, and human rights. The Ambassador directly assisted our efforts on CPAC Japan and helps our efforts to combat communism in Asia. Ambassador Hagerty’s accomplished record is not just one of working overseas to advance conservatism, but also here at home. He led the Trump transition team and created the single most conservative cabinet in U.S. history. We have worked with Bill Hagerty for years and in that time we have seen him as an effective leader and we know that he can do the same in Congress. That’s why we are endorsing him to be Tennessee’s next Senator.”

Founded in 1964, the American Conservative Union (ACU) is the nation’s original conservative organization.  For more than fifty years, ACU has served as an umbrella organization harnessing the collective strength of conservative organizations fighting for Americans who are concerned with liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values, and strong national defense.  As one of America’s premier conservative voices, ACU promotes a conservative vision on issues before Congress, the Executive Branch, State Legislatures, the media, political candidates, and the public.

A bit surprising, giving Hagerty’s long record of moderation, right up until he decided to run for Senate.

James, are you abandoning the Constitutional Party and voting in the Republican primary? Very disappointing.

Oh no, but there is no primary for the Constitution Party, as the Demos and Repubs saw to that.
Guess I will wait till the General for my party

I can see why you would hedge your bet and vote in the Republican primary , since you know that is where the next US senator will come from.

Mr. Schlapp has sold the ACU out to the establishmet. The people of Tennessee know Hagerty has done NOTHING to prove he is a conservative!

WHY I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HAGERTY, No3
Trump hardly knew Hagerty but Hagerty’s good buddy Romney, Alexander, Haslam, McConnell knew to tell Trump that Hagerty was their man. Of course, it helped Hagerty a lot when Hagerty and friend raised about one million dollars for Trump general election, which helped get Hagerty’s appointment to Japan ambassador. Alexander was glad to help Hagerty because Hagerty hired his son to work for him at theTennessee Department of Economic and Community Development
So folks there you have it….how Trump gave his support to Hagerty. A vote for Hagerty is just another vote for Alexander & Corker & Romney!
WHY I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HAGERTY, No 2:
Although President Trump endorses Hagerty, I can not forget that during the Presidential Primary, Hagerty first supported Jeb Bush (a rino establishment Republican). After Bush dropped out, Hagerty then went to support pro-amnesty Rubio, and after Trump secures the nomination, he went over to Trump.
Hagerty worked for Gov. Haslam (the weak rino republican that never worked hard supporting his own party) as Commissioner of Economic and Community Development. Hagerty left leaving the state with a massive trade deficit and ensuing job loses to other countries like Mexico and China and left Tennessee more dependent on China.
Hagerty has increased his reputation as an establishment Republican by having “never Trumpers” and democrat staffers. His financial fund-raiser and advisor earned her reputation working for establishment republicans such as Corker, Haslam, Alexander, Fincher, Randy Boyd, etc. He has a long-standing affiliation with Mitt Romney and served as his national financial man.
Tennessee became China’s most dependent US state following Hagerty’s tenure as Tennessee’s economic chief says the National Pulse. Hagerty earned a reputation as a globican along with Alexander, Bush, Romney and Mitch McConnell, who has endorsed Hagerty. McConnell has obstructed Trump on illegal immigration along with Trump’s emergency declaration on the border. His friend Romney sides with McConnell and Alexander most of the time.
The US Chamber of Commerce just endorsed Hagerty. The Chamber is big on amnesty for illegals as were his other rino friends. The “Dailey Roll Call” says “Voter Ignorance is Hagerty’s strength”.
Hagerty just released a plan to bring jobs back to Tennessee when he spent his efforts earlier on losing jobs to China with a trade deficit.
Hagerty maxed out giving contributions to Sen. McCain in mid-June,2016 when Trump and McCain were at the peak of their feud says the National Pulse. He also served on his transition team.
Hagerty served on the board of Directors of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a leading book publisher of Common Core material for schools and was highly paid for it. This from The Insurgent.
TENNESSEE: it is time we stop electing moderate rinos to office and make sure this time we vote for a real conservative and that is not Hagerty. Remember you are known by the company you keep.

Chairman Manny has not done one thing in his entire life that shows he has the slightest interest in or support for the conservative movement or conservative candidates. On the contrary, his anemic political record shows only a relationship with the Republican Establishment in the form of his Chairmanship of the flagship Party fundraiser the Statesmen’s Dinner in 2016 and his close friendship with Bob Davis, Chip Saltsman (“Mr. Moderate Republican”) and Chris Devaney (who is running his campaign) all former Chairmen of the TN Republican Party.

Chairman Manny is running as a “CONSERVATIVE-OUTSIDER” when in fact, he is neither. His entire campaign is a fraudulent enterprise. Conservatives must stop voting for “campaign conservatives” and start demanding conservative credentials before voting for someone for high office like U.S. Senator starting with this election by casting a vote AGAINST Chairman Manny by voting FOR Hagerty.

I believe you told this riveting story before Jim so I ask again what is the story behind allegedly super-duper conservative Chairman Manny contributing to the campaigns of Bob Corker (Heritage-63%) and Cindy Smith (Heritage 62%)?

I think that is an endorsement the ACU may regret in the future. I’m not familiar with the ACU scorecard but I predict if Trump gets reelected Hagerty will have a Heritage score of 75%. Once Trump is gone Hagerty will score about 70%. Much better than Lamar’s 51% but not good enough for a Senator from Tennessee.

And I predict that any heritage score he might Earn?!!? will be as meaningless as those of his colleagues. ZERO value.

My cat Joey is going to run for something and get endorsed by Conservative Cats of America. He never spends any money, and he is for very, very limited government. In addition, he patrols the property line and heads off any and all invaders. He has the endorsement of his fellow cats Katie and Tammy, who are even more conservative and would like for Joey to go to Washington and stop monitoring their every move. Help them out.

All of them are more conservative than Hagerty.

      Stuart I. Anderson says:

The trouble is Joey is a control freak and too easily distracted so he didn’t get his petition and fee in on time so we are stuck with Hagerty whose major selling point is not his conservatism but rather the fact that he is running AGAINST Chairman Manny.
