Wamp endorses Lee for governor

Former U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp is endorsing Franklin businessman Bill Lee’s bid for governor.

Wamp unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2010. So did then-Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey, who is a co-chairman of U.S. Rep Diane Black’s bid. Gov. Bill Haslam, the winner of the 2010 contest is remaining neutral in this year’s primary.

“While I originally intended to not take a public stand in this primary race, I have watched closely the tactics, tone and campaign activity of the four GOP candidates,” Wamp said in a release. “Without question, the most positive vision, organization and campaign has come from Bill Lee. No wonder so many in the Gospel and Country music industry are supporting Bill Lee.”

Here is the release from the Lee campaign:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Today, former conservative Congressman Zach Wamp (R) endorsed Bill Lee for governor. The endorsement from Congressman Wamp, coming after last week’s endorsement from the conservative Free Press Editorial Page at The Chattanooga Times Free Press, shows Lee has built tremendous momentum as early voting is underway right now.

“It is an honor to have the support of Congressman Zach Wamp, a conservative leader for Tennessee,” said Lee. “Zach has always stood on conservative principles and I am humbled and grateful to have his support.”

In his endorsement, Congressman Wamp said the following:

“As a conservative who loves Tennessee, believes in the nobility of public service and desires our leaders to carry themselves with dignity and honor, I have decided to step forward and wholeheartedly endorse Bill Lee for Governor of Tennessee.

While I originally intended to not take a public stand in this primary race, I have watched closely the tactics, tone and campaign activity of the four GOP candidates.  Without question, the most positive vision, organization and campaign has come from Bill Lee. No wonder so many in the Gospel and Country music industry are supporting Bill Lee. No wonder so many plumbers, farmers and veterans are supporting Bill Lee. No wonder his campaign now has more momentum than any other.

Bill Lee has run a positive campaign on the future of our great state. He and his campaign team have not sought to tear down other candidates, only to lift up the people of our state to an even higher place. I am convinced that only Bill Lee can take our beloved state of Tennessee to a new era of decency and honor.

I encourage all of my former supporters, my friends and fellow Tennesseans to get out and vote in the GOP primary for the next Governor of Tennessee Bill Lee.”

-Zach Wamp, Member of Congress 1995-2011

A life-long conservative leader, Congressman Zach Wamp served in the United States House of Representatives for Tennessee’s Third Congressional District from 1995 until 2011.

A good reason not to vote for Lee.

  • Jason Wallflower says:

That sound you hear is the rest of the air exiting the Diane Black for Governor balloon.

    Congratulations, Governor Boyd.

  • John Doe says:

Bill Lee is the man for the job and has been since the beginning. He leads with character instead of corruption and that’s what the state of Tennessee needs. Excited to see him as our next governor. He certainly has my family’s vote.

  • Stuart I. Anderson says:

Why don’t you all (except Jason) simply wait to see who has the best chance of defeating Randy! Boyd, that’s who should get your vote unless you are a centrist or a liberal Democrat who likes to vote in the Republican Primary. It’s time to end the Haslam administration after eight interminable years by voting for ANYBODY BUT BOYD!

  • Donna Locke says:

“Gospel” is the keyword in that statement. I know these folks would like to turn the voting polls into baptistries, but . . . no.

    • Stuart I. Anderson says:

Holy cow Donna, you mean the people “. . .in the Gospel and Country Music Industry. . .” “. . .would like to turn the voting polls into baptistries. . . “! WHO KNEW!?!?

Donna, we conservatives are trying to choose the right Republican nominee for Governor. It’s serious business as early voting has already begun. Now would you please stop kidding around.

      • Donna Locke says:

If y’all would listen to me in the first place, everything would turn out fine. 😉

Diane Black is and has been the way to go in this race.

20 years ago Tennesseans heard politicians promise that “There will never be a state income tax.” But two years later, we had to fight to stop it.

Today, many of those same Tennesseans are hearing politicians dismiss the possibility of a state property tax. But there it is, in state statute, a statewide property tax currently set at zero, ready to be deployed with a simple majority of the legislature.

We can’t afford another tax increase in our state. But only one candidate for Governor has made clear that he would stand firmly against a statewide property tax. And that’s Bill Lee. In fact, he’s the only candidate who has released a comprehensive agenda for controlling the budget and shrinking the size of government, a plan he laid out in his “Ten for Tennessee.”

As a property assessor and as a private businessman being fiscally focused is extraordinarily vital to a state or businesses future success. Only one candidate has demonstrated to me both by their words but more importantly, their actions, that it will not be “business as usual” under their administration. That person is Bill Lee.

Therefore I urge you to support and vote for Bill Lee for Governor

Rob, a poll was released today to the effect that Diane is most likely to defeat Randy! Boyd with Lee behind both Randy! and Diane. Put another way, unless Diane is successful we will have a Gov. Randy! for the next eight years and if you are a taxphobe that should give you something to worry about because a Gov. Randy! constitutes an eight year extension of the Haslam administration if we are lucky.

Of course, one poll doesn’t make an election that is still three weeks away, however, Diane has been ahead of Lee in every poll I have seen since this race began. If it becomes highly probable that a Gov. Lee is not in the cards and the choice is Black or Boyd, I hope you and others like you have enough flexibility to choose Black.
