Trump endorses Kustoff in 8th District

U.S. Rep. David Kustoff (R-Memphis) got a coveted endorsement from President Donald Trump in his Republican primary against self-funding George Flinn. And an ad is already in the can.

Kustoff is the wonderful, fabulous exception to the rule that every candidate who has not established a firm conservative persona before being elected to the Congress will go left once he gets to Washington. When Kustoff first ran against Marsha for the Seventh District seat he was the candidate of the Chamber of Commerce Washington/Nashville insiders. When he ran again for the Eighth District seat I naturally identified him in the same way and financially supported someone I thought would be much more conservative.

The happy ending to the story is that in his first term David racked up a super-conservative Heritage score of 88%!!!! On the other hand, Flinn is an unlanced boil on the body politic that refuses to just go away. I’d love nothing better than Republicans in the Eighth send David back to Washington with a resounding 70%+ of the vote because he has done a spectacularly great job.

    • James White says:

Nope. Kustoff is deep state and is horrible. Steve Cohen got a better score than him in the latest freedom index kustoff got 30% and Cohen got 40% 100% would be a true conservative.

Kustoff is not the best on immigration issues. In the Tennessee congressional delegation, Marsha Blackburn, Diane Black, and Scott DesJarlais are the best from the enforcement and reduction perspective, with John Duncan pretty close to that.

      • James White says:

Marsha Blackburn and Diane Black voted For Amnesty for illegal aliens.

        • Donna Locke says:

Mickey, they co-sponsored tougher bills the Republicans would not pass. They went with DACA in an effort to get tough measures in exchange. I don’t agree with the compromise, but I understand why they did it. Even our immigration-control lobbyists threw in with the trade, which hasn’t passed but gives quite a clue about what the immigration-control hardliners are up against in Congress. NumbersUSA did not grade them down on it.

DACA, which average Americans don’t really grasp, is a huge amnesty.

          • MarLE says:

Compromise is not unacceptable to me but HOW you sell it matters. DACA children should not be here anymore than children sneaked into the super bowl should stay to watch the game and be given lifetime box seats. These “children” are not the valedictorians and military vet as they are constantly being touted. Fewer than .1% served and fewer are valedictorians. But that is how their sob-sister story has been sold. Trump called the proposed Bill a “Bill of Love”. And Diane ….what did she say? Nothing to the contrary, unfortunately. She had a microphone and TV cameras, but no, just crickets. Vote for this, if you must, but let’s hear the truth of what you are doing. These kids have been agitating for ever and, while they have no right to anything, they are the most “entitled” group of immigrants in our country’s long history of immigration. Got to think they will make Great Entitled Citizens, like we need more of those!

  • Phil Lassiter says:

Stuart, you make him sound perennial-kinda like Joe Carr

    • Stuart I. Anderson says:

Of course Phil, less than one term in office doesn’t make a career but 88% is one impressive early pace. We conservatives have seen many a representative get “Potomac Fever” or “Grow in Office” when they are in Washington too long. While I can vouch for Joe Carr being a conservative of the most serious kind because I happen to know him very well on a personal basis, I don’t know Kustoff at all. All that being said, so far so good, and we certainly should encourage 8th District Republicans to send David back to the U.S. House based on his record over the last two years.
