First-year U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn plans to stay on the sidelines of the Republican primary to succeed retiring Sen. Lamar Alexander.

Speaking to The Tennessee Journal before Bill Hagerty joined the race, Blackburn said she expected the former U.S. ambassador to Japan to be “a fabulous candidate” if he got in. Also running for the GOP nomination is Vanderbilt surgeon Manny Sethi.

Blackburn noted Hagerty has the benefit of President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

“As the president said when he kind of outed him,  he will have the president’s full support,” Blackburn said. “We will stay out of the primary and let the voters have their say and looking forward to supporting the Republican who’s going to be the next U.S. Senator from Tennessee.”

Good for you Marsha!!! As a conservative, when faced with a Hobson’s Choice Election what’s a lady to do other than stand aside?

“That’s why I always counsel men, in relations with ladies after you have begotten all you want to beget, ‘RENT, NEVER BUY.'” – Stuart Anderson (emphasis NOT added).

must be a done deal on who it will be

So she thinks he’s fabulous, but she won’t commit to endorsing him? That’s what we like, a Senator with no real backbone.

    • MARLE says:

They call that a Profile in Courage”.

      • Lenny says:

Her top advisor, Stuart “Boss” Anderson called this shot. This is all part of his plan to avoid a tepid conservative and nominate a jar of Andy Holt’s warm urine.

    • Stuart I. Anderson says:

Ginny, Marsha is absolutely right on both counts. He is a “a fabulous candidate” straight out of Central Casting. He is a double Vandy alum, is well grounded in the tepid conservative wing of the Republican Party having been a fundraiser for Romney and Haslam so you know the Chamber and Business Round Table are enthusiastic and he got in on the ground floor of the Trump campaign so the Trumpidians are aboard. What’s not to like if you are an establishment Republican where the power and money dwell?

If you are a conservative, however, who was looking forward to another “Blackburn replaces Corker” scenario it’s something much less than fabulous. The thing to do therefore if you are a conservative officeholder is stand aside “. . .let the voters have their say. . . .” It would have been easy enough for Marsha to go along with the flow and endorse Hagerty. Instead, she chose to stand aside – a veritable profile in courage in this day and age I say.

Your wife never would have left you if she had seen how important and powerful you are in TN GOP politics. We stand amazed in Your presence.
